December 22 2007 Misc Pictures

I thought that I would go ahead and add some pictures that I have taken throughout 2007. Since I not only take pictures of weather phenomena, but lots of other things as well.

This is a picture of a prairie dog. I took this shot at the Lafeyette Zoo. Which has had a prairie dog exhibit for as long as I can remember!

This guy was pretty young I suspect. He was munching down on some kind of seed. While still wondering if he wanted to do his regular job of being a sentinel or not! Prairie dogs are alot like Meerkats, they have guards that are called sentinels. They stand up on two legs and watch out for predators. They also have elaborate underground borrows just like meerkats.

Playing sentinel looking at me, trying to find out if I am a threat or not. I wanted to get that shot of one being a sentinel really bad. But every time I would get up and close to get the glass out of the shot, they would run back underground. And with other people around now, scaring them I had to settle with this through the glass shot!

This was obviously near sunset. I didn't have time to go out to one of my shooting places, as I was afraid these cloud structures would disappear. These are a type of low level cloud. I am not sure exactly what. They look like mammatus, but they had nothing to do with any nearby storm. I am pretty sure they are a type of stratocumulus. Nice sunset though!

These two images are from a chase earlier in 2007. They did not make it into the chase accounts, but I did take some shots of rainbows on that chase day. I also had some fun with dodgeing lighning bolts. I was in my car so I was safe. But it was the kind of lighning were the bolt and thunder had no elapsed time in between. Kind of loud too. The fog above was forming from freashly fallen rain.

This is a picture of my Mom's Pekinese, his name is Mojo. Pekineses are common in China and Japan, most of them have black faces. This is actually one of two Pekineses that she has, the other is pure white, except for a little patch of beige on his back. Mojo is three years old and pretty smart!
