Well not much to say about this in terms of excitement. It didn't actually snow much. No real accumulation just an inch or so. The wind was crazy, thats what makes this event. 984 millibar low with a strong jet streak at 120-130knots. Strong baroclinicity at the surface with temps ranging from 60 to 20 degrees F. It was basically a three day system. With snowfall and wind starting the 8th. Major snow ended up falling all three days with the main snow falling the 9th.
The image below is a satellite image from Dec 10th. Those arent clouds! Its snow pack, with the main snowfall shown in IA, NE, and SD. With just a little swath in IN. Thats me, straight down from Lake MI, see the lines. Those lines are light snow swaths.
Wind blowing. The flag poles are bent!
Yeah, thats my review mirror. From all the wind the left side was actually all iced up. The mirror, the lock, the windows. Wind was mainly from the west. With wind chills around 10 degrees F. Wind blown snow had stuck to the vehicle icing it up!
A little bit later when it got interesting. Snow and wind.
Used a flash for those of you wondering.
This is not a long exposure even though it may look like one. The wind was blowing hard out of the west. With snowfall constant. The wind helped keep snow accumulation down.
Below is a quick video, showing the wind in action. 30 knots sustained with 50 knot gusts.
