I started out thinking I was going to head to Shades state park. I was
planning on walking the trails and doing some shooting. My main goal
was to do most of the shots down in the creek valley, where most of the
trails converge. Its very beautiful back in there, with very steep rock
faces surrounding sugar creek. The areas mostly sandstone buried
amongst deep vegetation.
But I took the long way out which takes you through Wallace, IN which
is a town that hasnt changed in decades. The main attraction, the only
attraction, is a cafe/dinner that people come to from miles around. The
place is always packed, with people from sometimes hundreds of miles
away!
Below is a panoramic I shot of downtown Wallace. The post office in the
middle has been closed for a while now. Thats about all there is to the
town though, LOL. Lots of people packed into this small town.
More cars! Thats the dinner to the right of the tree. Thats pretty much
all there is to the town. Look at the name of the street there. There
is a Lutheran church just down the road to my right. There is also a
very old covered bridge just down from the church.
Just to the left of where I am in the above image is this old house.
Interesting colors I thought as well as decorations, thats a chicken
their on top of the table.
Heres a close up of the mural in the second image. It shows all the
historic aspects surrounding Wallaces history and area!
Next I was on my way to Shades when I remembered that their was a
nature preserve in the area. And I thought if I could find it, I might
take a quick look. I have never explored the preserve before. This area
is awesome to drive through and because it is such dense forest, its
about 10 degrees cooler than in the surrounding area.
Its actually right off the road, right off state rd 234. There is only
one entrance that I know of. Which makes it easy to miss if your not
looking carefully.
Here is the landmark at the entrance.
Looking down at sugar creek from near turkeys backbone.
Heres a little panoramic I made of a very tall tree along the trail.
I enjoy getting out there and shooting these pictures even though I
didnt take that many on this little trip. But I think you can probably
count on there being more of this kinda thing on the website. I might
have to add an extra section if I start getting to much of this stuff.
